Ridgeland Elementary School Tutor KindergartenersThe folks who are on the "front line" with students are the most valuable resources we have to ensure program success. They will truly make a difference in the lives of the little ones in their care. This kindergarten tutoring commitment includes attending one training session to learn about the program ( Alphabet Junction) and receive vital "logistical" information. The workshop will last less than one hour and each participant will receive a packet of information to review at home. Tutors sign up for a two hour time slot; they work with 2 to 3 students for the 30 minute sessions. Each tutot will conduct three 30 minute sessions with a little time allowed to take one group of students back to the classroom and bring the next group in to the Alphabet Junction area. The total number of students a volunteer will work with in one day is 6 to 9, depending on the size of the groups. Each student in the Alphabet Junction program is seen three times a week, though not always with the same volunteer. Training for the program wiill be offered during the last two weeks of September. The program begins the first week in October and continues through the middle of May. There are no sessions the week before Thanksgiving and Christmas. A background check is required prior to volunteering in a school setting. Agency: United Way of the Lowcountry
